Kalima was a Manchester -based Factory Records band who were active from to and in after a reformation, playing in a funk, Latin and jazz style. The band A Thousand Signs - Kalima - Feeling Fine its name to Kalima in named after a track by Elvin Jones on his album Remembrance.
Tony Quigley also joined A Certain Ratio at the beginning of Having such a large band and sharing most members with A Certain Ratio led to problems coordinating with that band's schedule and US tour. Andy Connell also El Silbidito - Jorge Cafrune - El Silbidito chart success with Swing Out Sisterin which he ended up leaving both bands after Kalima released the single "Whispered Words" in May Evans, Kerr and Moscrop soon followed.
Hennin and Saffer soon left. This lineup recorded the album Kalima! The band moved to London to become part of the acid jazz scene and released the collection, Flyaway in and recorded their third album, Feeling Fineat the end of Blame the company.
